उद्घाटितनवद्वारे पञ्जरे विहगोऽनिलः ।
यत्तिष्ठति तदाश्चर्यं प्रयाणे विस्मयः कुतः ॥ १64१
Udghatitanavadvare panjare vihago anilah ।
yattishthati tadashcharyam
prayane vismayah kutah ॥
With all the nine gates of the body wide open will the ensnared
bird (life-force) fly away? It is a wonder that the bird of life-force does not fly away!
कश्चिन्निन्देत् प्रशंसेद्वा लाभोऽस्माकं
प्रजायते ।
प्रशंसा प्रेरणादात्री
निन्दनं सावधानकृत् ॥ १64२
Kashchinnindet prashamsedva
labho asmakam prajayate ।
Prashamsa preranadatri nindanam
savadhanakrut ॥
Let someone
criticise us or compliment us, we are the gainers in either case.
The praise
provides encouragement while the criticism makes us to be cautious.
अबलस्य कुतः कोशो ह्यकोशस्य कुतो बलम् ।
अबलस्य कुतो राज्यमराज्ञः श्रीर्भवेत्कुतः ॥ १64३
Abalasya kutah kosho hyakoshasya kuto balam ।
Abalsya kuto rajyam araajnah shri bhavet ktutah ॥
From where will the weak
acquire wealth? How will the unwealthy acquire power? How will the kingdom of the
powerless survive? If the kingdom is lost how will its wealth remain?
आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति
यद्वत् ।
तद्वत्कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे स शान्तिमाप्नोति
न कामकामी ॥ १644
Apuruamanamachalapratishtam samudramapah
pravishanti yadvat ।
Tadvatkama yam pravishanti sarve sa
shantimapnoti na kamakami ॥
A person who is not disturbed by the incessant flow of desires that enter one’s mind like rivers into the ocean which is ever full but is always still can alone achieve peace, and not the one who tries to satisfy every such desire.
नितरां नीचोऽस्मीति त्वं खेदं कूप कदापि मा कृथाः
।
अत्यन्तसरसहृदयो यतः परेषां गुणग्रहीतासि ॥ १645
Nitaram nicho asmiti tvam khedam kupa kadapi ma krutha ।
Atyantasarasahrudayo yatah paresham gunagrahitasi ॥
Hey! Water filled Well! Never be sad that you are a lowly entity.
You are extremely good-hearted as you fill the pots of whoever
comes to you.
असत्यमप्रत्ययमूलकारणं कुवासना सद्मसमृद्धिवारणम्।
विपन्निदानं
परवञ्चनोर्जितं कृतापराधं कृतिभिर्विवर्जितम् ॥ १646
Asatyamapratyayamulakaranam kuvasana
sadbhasamruddhivaranam ।
Vipannidanam paravanchanorjitam krutaparadham krutabhirvivarjitam
॥
Falsehood is the root cause of any distrust, sinful desire is
instrumental in obstruction of prosperity of any household, power based on
cheating others is the main cause of misfortunes and wrong doings will make a
person deprived of opportunity to do work.
अमित्रो मित्रतां याति मित्रं चापि प्रदुष्यति ।
सामर्थ्य योगात्कार्याणामनित्या वै सदा गतिः ॥ १647
Amitro mitratam yati mitram chapi
pradushyati ।
Samarthya yogatkaryanamanitya vai sada gatih ॥
An enemy becomes a friend and a friend becomes an enemy,
Through combination of
circumstances, human actions become uncertain.
एकोsहमस्मीत्यात्मानं यत्त्वं
कल्याण मन्यसे l
नित्यं
स्थितस्ते हृदये पुण्यपापेक्षिता मुनिः ll १64८
Eko ahamasmityatmanam yattvam kalyana manyase ।
Nityam
sthitaste hrudaye punyapapekshitaa munih ll
If you consider yourself to
be alone while committing wrong deeds, it is a mistake. You are never alone. There is someone sitting
inside you who is the witness to all good and bad deeds committed by you.
एको हि दोषो गुणसन्निपाते निमज्जतीन्दोरिति यो बभाषे ।
न तेन दृष्टं कविना समस्तं दारिद्यमेकं गुणकोटिहारि ॥१649
Eko hi dosho
gunasannipate nimajjatindoriti yo babhashe ।
Na tena drushtam
kavina samastam daridryamekam gunakotihari ll
The poet who says that one defect is hidden in all good things like the spots on the moon get hidden by moonlight, is unable to see that one defect can put all good qualities in the mud.
सर्व एव नरा मोहाद्दुराशापाशपाशिनः।
दोषगुल्मकसारंगा विशीर्णा जन्मजंगले ॥ १65०
Sarva eva nara mohaddurashapashapashinah ।
Doshagulmakasaranga vishirna janmajangale ll
All human beings under the influence of delusion, excessive
greed and caught in their own blemishes, like deers caught in a cluster of
trees, get totally shattered in their life on this earth.
अपि च ज्ञानसम्पन्नः सर्वान्वेदान्पितुगृहे ।
श्लाघमान इवाधीयाद्ग्राम्य इत्येव तं विदुः ॥ १65१
Api cha gyanasampannah sarvanvedan
pitrugruhe ।
Shlaghamana ivadhiyadgramya ityeva tam viduh ll
If remaining in his father's house he
masters all the vedas and acquires great knowledge and a position that should
command respect, people still condemn him as a home-bird.
उपार्जितानामर्थानां त्याग एव
हि रक्षणं ।
तडागोदर
संस्थानां परीवाह इवाम्भसां ॥ १65२
Uparjitanamarthanam tyag eva hi rakshanam ।
Tadagodara samsthanam parivaha
evambhasam ll
The best way to protect acquired wealth is equitable distribution
of the surplus wealth among others, just
like a canal from a lake carrying out surplus water to needy areas.
न सत्यं केवलं सत्यमनृत न तथानृतम् ।
हितं यत् सर्वलोकस्य तत्सत्यं शेषमन्यथा ॥ १65३
Na satyam kevalam satyamanruta na tathanrutam ।
Hitam yat sarvalokasya tatsatyam sheshamanyatha ll
Mere facts will not make the complete truth. Anything not true is not false by default. What is good for the whole world is the truth, all the rest are false.
अनुभूतं न यद्येन रुपं नावैति तस्य स: ।
न स्वतंत्रो व्यथां वेत्ति परतंत्रस्य देहिनः ॥ १654
Anubhutam na yadyena rupam navaiti tasya sah ।
Na svatantro vyatham vetti paratantrasya
dehinah ll
One, who has not experienced a situation, will not be able
know anything about its form. An independent man will not be able to visualise
the anguish of a dependent person.
अतितृष्णा न कर्तव्या तृष्णाम् नैव परित्यजेत् ।
शनैः शनैश्च भोक्तव्यं
स्वयं वित्तमुपार्जितम् ॥ १655
Atitrushna na kartavyaa trushnam naiva parityajet ।
Shanai shanaishcha bhoktavyam svayam vittamuparjitam ll
Extreme indulgence should
be avoided. Similarly extreme austerity too.
Self earned wealth should
be spent slowly and judiciously.
सन्तोषस्त्रिषु
कर्तव्यः स्वदारे भोजने धने।
त्रिषु चैव न कर्तव्योSध्ययने तपदानयोः ॥ १656
Santoshastrishu kartavyah svadare bhojane dhane ।
Trishu chaiva na kartavyo adhyayane tapadanayoh ll
One should be contented with
three things that is his lot, namely his own wife, food that he gets and wealth
that he earns, while he should never just be contented with three things,
namely, studies, religious austerity and works of charity.
अकृत्वा मानुषं कर्म यो दैवमनुवर्तते ।
वृथा श्राम्यति सम्प्राप्य पतिं क्लीबमिवाङ्गना ॥ १657
Akrutva manusham karma yo daivam anuvartate I
Vruthaa shramyati samprapya patim klibam ivangana II
He who without performing his duties as a human, depending only
on providence, acts in vain, like the woman with an impotent husband.
अहो प्रच्छादिताकार्यनैपुण्यं
परमं खले ।
यत्तुषाग्निरिवानर्चिदहन्नपि लक्ष्यते ॥ १65८
Aho prachchhaditakaryanaipunyam
paramam khale l
Yattushagnirivanarchidahannapi lakshyate ll
Wicked persons are very
skilled in committing crimes hidden from
the view of society, just
like a flame of fire hidden under a heap of husk.
आस्ते भग आसीनस्योर्ध्वस्तिष्ठति
तिष्ठतः ।
शेते निपद्यमानस्य चराति चरतो भगश्चरैवेति ॥ १659
Aste bhaga asinasyorrdhvastishttati tishttatah l
Shete nipadyamanasya charati charato bhagashvaraiveti ll
The fortune of one who keeps
sitting will be stationary and of one who keeps
standing will be in upward position, of one who keeps lying down will be lying low, of one who is moving around will be moving around.
एवं च ये द्रव्यमवाप्य
लोके मित्रेषु धर्मे च नियोजयन्ति ।
अवाप्तसाराणि धनानि तेषां भ्रष्टानि नान्ते जनयन्ति तापम् ॥ १66०
Evam cha ye dravyamaavapya loke mitreshu cha niyojanti l
Avaptasarani Dhanani tesham
bhrashtani nante janayanti tapam ll
Those who have secured wealth or objects of use
in this world and deploy them for helping their friends or for the purpose
Dharma, may have the wealth gets reduced. But that does not give rise to any
displeasure.
