सुवर्णपुष्पां पृथिवी चिन्वन्ति पुरुषाः स्त्रियः ।

शूरश्च कृतविद्याश्च यश्च जानाति सेवितुम् ॥ २०६

Suvarnapushpam pruthivi chinvanti purushah striyah ।

Shurashcha krutavidyashcha yashca janati sevitum ॥

The earth will distribute golden flowers(wealth) to men and women.

But to those who are brave, are learned and know how to serve.

एतद्देशप्रसूतस्य सकाशादग्रजन्मनः ।

स्वं स्वं चरित्रं शिक्षेरन् पृथिव्यां सर्वमानवाः ॥ २०७

Etaddeshaprasutasya sakashadagrajanmanah ।

Svam svam charitram shiksheran pruthivyam sarvamanavah ॥

Let the lives of great men born in this land be lessons to people from all over

जरा रूपं हरति धैर्यमाशा मृत्युःप्राणान् धर्मचर्यमसूया ।

क्रोधः श्रियं शीलमनार्यसेवा कामः सर्वमेवाभिमानः ॥ २०८

Jara rupam harati dhairyamasha mrutyuh pranan dharmacharyamasuya ।

Krodhah shriyam shilamanaryaseva kamah sarvamevabhimanah ॥

Old age takes away beauty, excessive hope takes away courage, death takes away life, jealousy takes away values, anger takes away prosperity, working with unworthy people takes away good conduct, desire and ego take away everything.

नानाकवीन्द्रवचनानि मनोहराणि संख्यावतां परमकण्ठविभूषणानि ।

आकम्पकानि शिरसश् च महाकवीनां तेषां समुच्चयम् अनर्घम् अहं विधास्ये ॥ २०९    

Nanakavindravachanani manoharani sankhyavatam paramakantthavibhushanani ।

Akampakani shirasash cha mahakavinam tesham samucchayam anargham vidhasye ॥

कन्या वरौते रूपं माता वित्तं पिता श्रुतम् ।

बान्धवाः कुलम् इच्छन्ति मिष्टान्नम् इतरे जनाः ॥ २१०

Kanya varaute rupam mata vittam pita shrutam ।

Bandhavah kulam ichchanti mishtannam itare janah ॥

The bride seeks good looks in the groom, the mother seeks his wealth, father his education, relatives his pedigree, others seek the sumptuous meals at the wedding.

वने रणे शत्रुजलाग्निमध्ये महार्णवे पर्वतमस्तके वा ।

सुप्तं प्रमत्तं विषमस्थितं वा रक्षन्ति पुण्यानि पुरा कृतानि ॥ २०१

Vane rane shatrujalagnimadhye maharnave parvatamastake va ।

Suptam pramatam vishamasthitam va rakshanti punyani pura krutani ॥

In adverse conditions as in a forest, in war, among enemies, in extreme conditions, on top of a mountain, sleeping or unconscious, good deeds done in the past will protect one.

अज्ञेभ्यो ग्रन्थिनः श्रेष्ठाः ग्रन्थिभ्यो धारिणो वराः ।

धारिभ्यो ज्ञानिनः श्रेष्ठाः ज्ञानिभ्यो व्यवसायिनः ॥ २०२

Ajnebhyo granthinah shreshthah granthibhyo dharino varah ।

Dharibhyo jnaninah shreshthah jnanibhyo vysvasayinah ॥o

A well read person is better than an illiterate, one who grasps what he reads is better than just a reader, one who assimilates what is read is better than one who grasps, one who puts to use what is assimilated is better than one who assimilates.

रत्नैः महाहेः तुतुषुः न देवाः न भेजिरे भीमविषेण भीतिम् ।

अमृतं विना न पययुः विराममं न निश्चिदर्थात् विरमंति धीराः ॥ २०३

Ratnaih mahaheh tutushuh na devah na bhejire bhimavishena bhitim ।

Amrutam vina na payayuh viramam na nishchidarthan viramanti dhirah ॥

While the churning of the ocean, gods did not stop even after recovering jewels. They did not stop till the desired nectar was received. Similarly, brave committed persons will not stop till the goal is reached.

उदारस्य तृणं वित्तं शूरस्य मरणं तृणम् ।

विरक्तस्य तृणं भार्या निस्पृहस्य तृणं जगत् ॥ २०४

Udarasya trunam vittam shurasya maranam trunam ।

Viraktasya trunam bharya nispruhasya trunam jagat ॥

For the generous money is insignificant, for the brave death is insignificant, for one without passion even a wife is insignificant and for one who is without desire the world is insignificant.

सन्तप्तायसि संस्थितस्य पयसो नामापि न जायते मुक्ताकारतया तदेव नलिनीपत्रस्थितं राजते ।

स्वात्यां सागरशुक्तिमध्यपतितं सन्मौक्तिकं जायते प्रायेणोत्तममध्यमाधमदशा संसर्गतो जायते ॥ २०५

Santaptayasi samsthitasya payaso namapi na jayate muktakarataya tadeva nalinipatrasthitam rajate ।

Svatyam sagarashuktimadhyapatitam sanmauktikam jayate prayenottamamadhyamadhamadasha samsargato jayate ॥

A drop of water on a hot plate cannot be noticed. A drop on a lotus leaf shines like a pearl. Rays from the Swati star in an oyster become a pearl. Similarly, good, medium and bad status of people  depend on the company they keep.

तस्या मुखस्यायतलोचनायाः कर्तुं न शक्तः सदृशं प्रियायाः ।
इतीव शीत-द्युतिर् आत्म-बिम्बं निर्माय निर्माय पुनर् भिनत्ति ॥ १९६

Tasya mukhasyayatalochanayah kartum na shaktah sadrusham priyayah ।

Itiva shitadyutir atma bimbam nirmaya nirmaya punar bhinati ॥

The moon tries every month in vain to paint a picture of your face;
And, having failed to catch its grace, destroys the work, and starts again.

काचं मणिं काञ्चनमेकसूत्रे मुग्धा निब्ध्नन्ति किमत्र चित्रम् ।

विचारवान् पाणिनिरेकसूत्रे श्वानं युवानं मघवानमाह ॥ १९७

Kacham manim kanchanamekasutre mugdha nibdhnanti kimatra chitram ।

Vicharavan paninirekasutre shvanam yuvanam maghvanamaha ॥

What is strange about innocent women tying glass, beads and gold on the same thread? Thinker, grammarian Panini included a dog, youth and Indra in the same thread(this is a pun on the word Sutra which means thread as well as a formula)

बालस्यापि रवेः पादाः पतन्त्युपरि भूभ्रृताम् ।

तेजसा सह जातानां वयः कुत्रोपयुज्यते ॥ १९८

Balasyapi raveh padah patanyupari bhubhrutam ।

Tejasa sa jatanam vayah kutropayujyate ॥

अतिपरिचयादवज्ञा सन्ततगमनादनादरो भवति ।

मलये भिल्लपुरन्ध्री चन्दनतरुकाष्ठमिन्धनं कुरुते ॥ १९९

Atiparichayadavajna santatagamanadanadaro bhavati ।

Malaye bhillpurandhrI chandanatarukashtthamindhanam kurute ॥

Familiarity breeds contempt. On mountains were sandalwood is abundant, wives of Bhillas use it as firewood.

सर्वत्र देशे गुणवान् शोभते प्रथितः नरः ।

मणिः शीर्शे गले बाहौ यत्र कुत्र अपि शोभते ॥ २००

Sarvatra deshe gunavan shobhate prathitah narah ।

Manih shirshe gale bahau yatra kutra api shobhate ॥

A person with good qualities will shine all over the country. Just as a jewel does worn on the head, neck or shoulders.
