खलानां कण्टकानां च द्विविधैव प्रतिक्रिया

उपानन्मुखभङ्गो वा दूरतो वा विवर्जनम् ॥

Khalanam kantakanam
cha dvividhaiva pratikriya ।
Upananmukhabhango
va durato va vivarjanam ॥
There are only two
ways to react to wicked people and thorns.
Slap their faces
with shoes or keep a safe distance.
श्रेयश्च
प्रेयश्च मनुष्यमेतः तौ सम्परीत्य विविनक्ति धीरः ।
श्रेयो हि धीरोऽभि प्रेयसो वृणीते प्रेयो मन्दो योगक्षेमाद्वृणीते ॥ ५१७

Shreyashcha preyashcha manushyametah tau samparitya vivinakti dhirah ।
Shreyo hi dhiro abhi preyaso vrunite preyo mando yogakshemadvrunite ॥
When the good and the pleasant approach men, the wise man examines
both andp refers the good over the pleasant, but the foolish man chooses
the pleasant through love of bodily pleasure.
शतमप्यपराधानां सुकृतेनैकेन नाशयत्यार्यः ।
नाशयति सुकृतशतमपि नीचस्त्वेकापराधेन ॥ ५१८
Shatamapyaparadhanam sukrutenaikena
nashayatyaryah ।
Nashayati sukrutashatamapi
nichastvekaparadhena ॥
A good man
erases a hundred bad deeds with just a single good deed.
A wicked
fellow erases a hundred good deeds with a single bad deed.
कस्यैकान्तं
सुखम् उपनतं दु:खम् एकान्ततो वा ।
नीचैर् गच्छति उपरि च दशा चक्रनेमिक्रमेण ॥ ५१९
नीचैर् गच्छति उपरि च दशा चक्रनेमिक्रमेण ॥ ५१९
Kasyaikantam sukham upanatam dukham ekantato va ।
Nichair gachchati upari cha dasha chakranemikramena ॥

नास्तिकानां च सर्पाणां विषस्य च गुणस्त्वयम्

Nastikanam cha sarpanam vishasya cha
gunastvayam ।
Mohayanti param yaccha doshe yasya naiva
parasya tu ॥
The poison of
