इह लोकोऽपि धनिनां परोऽपि स्वजनायते ।
स्वजनोऽपि दरिद्रणां
तत्क्षाणाद्दुर्जनायते ॥ 751
Iha loko api dhaninam paro api svajanayate ।
Svajano api daridranam tatkshanaddurjanayate ॥
In this world, rich men are considered their own
even by strangers.
Even if related, poor people are immediately
considered unrelated.
धनस्य यस्यास्ति न राजतो वा न चौरतो वाऽपि भयं कदाचित् ।
विद्याख्यमन्तर्धनमर्जयेत् दन्यद्धनं नश्यति सर्वमेव ॥ 752
Dhanasya yasyasti
na rajato va na chorato va api
bhayam kadachit ।
Vidyakhyamantardhanamarjayet danyaddhanam
nashyati sarvameva ॥
Wealth should be such that there will be no fear of being taken over by the king or a thief. Earn the wealth of inner knowledge, as all other wealth is liable to be lost.
श्रेयाम्सि
बहु विघ्नानि भवन्ति महतामपि ।
अश्रेयसि
प्रवृत्तानां दूरं यान्ति विनायकाः ॥ 753
Shreyamsi bahu vighnani bhavanti mahatamapi ।
Ashreyasi pravruttanam duram yanti vinayakah ॥
Even for the noble, there are many
hurdles to perform laudable deeds.
For those involved in disgraceful
deeds, even obstacles stay away.
धनिकः श्रोत्रियो राजा नदी वैद्यस्तु पंचम ।
पंच यत्र न विद्यन्ते न तत्र दिवसं वसेत् ॥ 754
Dhanikah shrotriyo raja nadi vaidyastu panchama ।
Pancha yatra na vidyante tatra divasam vaset ॥
Where the five, Rich man, Pandit, King, River and
Doctor are not
present in a place, do not live there even for a
day.
ऐश्वर्यस्च विभूषणं सुजनता शौर्यस्च वाक्संयमो ।
ज्ञानस्योपशमः कुलस्य विनयो पात्रे व्ययः ॥ 755
Aishvaryasya vibhushanam sujanata shauryasya
vaksamyamo ।
Jnanasyopashamah kulasya vinayo patre vyayah ॥
Compassion is the ornament of the wealthy, clarity in speech, of the brave,
Cool-headed ness, of the learned and courteousness, of the high born.
