भवेऽस्मिन् पवनोद्भ्रान्तवीचि विभ्रमभङ्गुरे ।
जायते पुणय्योगेन परार्थे जीवितव्ययः ॥ १54१
Bhave asmin pavanodbhrantavici vibhramabhangure ।
Jayate punayyogena pararthe jivitavyayah ॥
In this worldly existence, which is as fleeting as the curling up
of a wave raised by the wind, forsaking one’s life for the sake of another
happens due to extraordinary virtue.
दातृत्वं प्रियवक्तृत्वं धीरत्वमुचितज्ञता ।
अभ्यासेन न लभ्येयुश्चत्वारः सहजाः गुणाः ॥ १54२
Datrutvam priyavaktrutvam dhiratvamuchitajnata ।
Abhyasena na labhyeyushchatvarah
sahajah gunah ॥
Generosity, speaking agreeably, fortitude and
knowledge of what is proper are
qualities which occur naturally and cannot be
acquired through practice.
मुक्तिमिच्छसि चेत्तात विषयान्विषवत्त्यजेः ।
क्षमार्जवदयाशौचं सत्यं पीयूषवत्पिबे: ॥ १54३
Muktimichchasi chettata vishayanvishavattyajeh ।
Kshamarjavadayashaucham satyam piyushavatpibeh ॥
If you desire ultimate release, discard the poisonous
elements of things.
Embrace tolerance, simple thinking, kindness, and
truth as equal to nectar.
निःस्पृहो नाधिकारी स्यान्नाकामी मण्डनप्रियः।
नाविदग्धः प्रियं ब्रूयात् स्फुटवक्ता न वञ्चकः ॥ १544
Nispruho nadhikari
syannakami mandanapriyah ।
Navidagdhah priyam bruyat
sputavakta na vanchakah ॥
A person in authority would not be free from self-interest, a
person fond of decorating himself would not be free from lustful desires, an
unrefined person is not expected to speak in a pleasing manner and a frank open
speaker would not be a cheat.
दाता क्षमी गुणग्राही स्वामी दुःखेन लभ्यते ।
शुचिर्दक्षोऽनुरक्तश्च जाने भृत्योऽपि दुर्लभः ॥ १545
Data
kshami gunagrahi svami dukhena labhyate ।
shuchirdaksho anuraktashcha jane
bhrutyo api durlabhah ॥
A master who is generous, tolerant, and appreciative of good work
is hard to find
but it is also rare to find an honest, smart, and loyal servant.
विनयान्वितस्वान्तःशुद्धाचारसमन्वितः
।
जिज्ञासु:
सत्यवादी च विद्यार्थी प्रियदर्शन: ॥ १546
Vinayanvitasvantahshuddhacharasamanvitah
।
Jijnasuh satyavadi cha
Vidyarthi priyadarshanah ॥
A
courteous, well behaved, with clean habits and interested
in
learning, truthful student is a pleasure to behold.
विश्वासयेत्परांश्चैव विश्वसेच्च न कस्यचित्।
पुत्रेष्वपि हि राजेन्द्र
विश्वासो न प्रशस्यते ॥ १547
Vishvasayetparamshchaiva
vishvasechcha na kasyachit ।
Putreshvapi hi Rajendra
vishvaso na prashasyate ॥
Oh, King, one’s behaviour should be such that it would make
others trust him, but one should never place full confidence in anyone. Even
placing trust in one’s own children is not recommended
उपकर्त्रारिणा सन्धिर्न मित्रेणापकारिणा ।
उपकारापकारो हि लक्ष्यं लक्षणम् एतयोः ॥ १54८
Upakartrariṇa sandhirna mitrenapakariṇa ।
Upakarapakaro hi lakhṣyam lakṣhanam
etayoḥ ॥
Association with a helping enemy is better than having a betraying
friend. Helping or injuring are the characteristics for deciding whether one is
an enemy or a friend.
दर्शनध्यानसंस्पर्शैर्मत्सी कूर्मी च
पक्षिणी ।
शिशुं पालयते नित्यं तथा सज्जनसंगतिः ॥ १549
Darshanadhyanasamsparshairmatsi kurmi cha pakshini |
Shishum palayate nityam tatha sajjanasangatih ||
Just like fish, tortoises and birds provide
protection to their young ones by sjght, mind and touch, the company of noble people provides
protection to people around them.
आप्तवाक्यमनादृत्य दर्पेणाचरितं यदि ।
फलितं विपरीतं तत् का तत्र परिदेवना ॥ १55०
Aptavakyamanadrutya
darpeṇacharitam yadi ।
Phalitam viparitam tat ka
tatra paridevana ॥
Disregarding
the words of a well-wisher, if a person acts due to pride, the result will be
contrary. Why lament at such a result?
