नहि पापानि कर्माणि शुध्यन्त्यनशनादिभिः  ।

सीदत्यनशनादेव मांसशोणितलेपनः ॥ ४९६

Nahi papani karmani shudhyantyanashanadibhih ।

Sidantyashanadeva mamsashonitalepanah ॥

Sins do not get washed away by fasting.

What goes with fasting is only a coating of flesh and blood.

अर्थार्थी यानि कष्टानि सहते कृपणो जनः ।

तान्येव यदि धर्मार्थी न पुनः क्लेशभाग्भवेत् ॥ ४९७

Artharthi yani kashtani sahate krupano janah ।

Tanyeva yadi dharmarthi na punah kleshabhagbhavet ॥

The troubles misers undergo for acquiring wealth, the same,

If they were to undergo for Dharma, they would not undergo suffering.

किं दातुरखिलैर्दोषैः किं लुब्धस्याखिलैर्गुणैः ।

न लोभाधिको दोषो न दानादधिको गुणः ॥ ४९८

Kim daturakhilairdoshaih kim lubdhasyakhilairgunaih ।

Na lobhadhiko dosho na danadadhiko gunah ॥

What does a generous man have to do with all evils and what does a greedy person have to do with all good qualities? There is no evil worse than greed and no quality better than charity.

गुणदोषसमाहारे दोषान् गृह्णन्त्यसाधवः ।

मुक्ताफलानि सन्त्यज्य काका मांसमिव द्विपात् ॥ ४९९

Gunadoshasamahare doshan gruhnantyasadhavah ।

Muktaphalani santyajya kaka mamsamiva dvipat ॥

From the bundle of good and bad qualities, evil people will select bad ones

Like crows who will neglect pearls and pick on the flesh of elephants.

पठतो नास्ति मूर्खत्वम् जपतो नास्ति पातकम् ।

मौनिनः कलहो नास्ति न भयं चास्ति जाग्रतः ॥ ५००

Patthato nasti murkhatvam japato nasti patakam ।

Mauninah kalaho nasti na bhayam chasti jagratah ॥

The Learned one will not have foolishness, devout one will not have downfall

Silent ones will not face conflict, one who is wide awake will have no fear.
