Prativadini cha bharya paraseva paragruhe sada bhuktih

Kshipram jarayati purusham nichairvasah pravasashcha

A wife who contradicts, serving under others, always eating in others’ houses,

keeping company with the lowly and going abroad hasten old age in men.

Shraddhadhanah shubhaam vidyamadaditavaradapi

Amitradapi sadvruttam baladapi subhaashitam

A keen person should acquire good things even from a lowly person. One should absorb virtues even from an enemy. One should value the good word even if it is from a child.

Vidyavinito raja hi prajanam vinaye ratah

Ananyam pruthivim bhunkte sarvabhutahite ratah

Only a king who has acquired humility through learning can instill discipline in the people. Engaged in everyone’s welfare, without any enemy, he enjoys the earth.

Nastidrusham samvananam trishu lokeshu kinchana

Yatha maitri cha lokeshu danam cha madhura vak

There is no such means for winning over people in the

three worlds as friendship, worldly gifts and sweet talk.

Yatha kashtam cha kashtam cha sameyatam mahodadhau

Sametya cha vyapeyatam tadvat bhutasamagamah

Similar to the way two pieces of wood come together and

immediately separate in the sea is the nature of humankind
