A wife who contradicts, serving under others, always
eating in others’ houses,
keeping company with the lowly and going abroad hasten
old age in men.
Shraddhadhanah
shubhaam vidyamadaditavaradapi ।
Amitradapi
sadvruttam baladapi subhaashitam ॥
A
keen person should acquire good things even from a lowly person. One should absorb
virtues even from an enemy. One should value the good word even if it is from a
child.

sarvabhutahite ratah ॥
Only a king who has acquired humility through
learning can instill discipline in the people. Engaged in everyone’s welfare,
without any enemy, he enjoys the earth.
Nastidrusham samvananam trishu lokeshu kinchana
।
Yatha maitri cha lokeshu danam cha madhura vak ॥
There is no such means for winning over people in the
three worlds as friendship, worldly gifts and sweet talk.
Yatha
kashtam cha kashtam cha sameyatam mahodadhau ।
Sametya
cha vyapeyatam tadvat bhutasamagamah ॥
Similar to the way two
pieces of wood come together and
immediately separate in the
sea is the nature of humankind
