प्रत्यहं प्रत्यवेक्षेत नरश्चरितमात्मनः ।
किं नु मे पशुभिस्तुल्यं किं नु सत्पुरुषेरिति ॥ 861
Pratyaham pratyaveksheta
narashcharitamatmanah l
Kim nu me pashubhistulyam
kim nu satpurusheriti ll
One must regularly examine oneself
and one’s soul.
Whether the soul is like that
of a beast or like that of a noble person.
अहो साहजिकं प्रेम दूरादपि विराजते ।
चकोरनयनद्वन्द्वमाह्लादयति
चन्द्रमाः ॥ 862
Aho sahajikaṃ prema duradapi
virajate l
Cakoranayanadvandvamahladayati candramah ll
When love is natural, distance does not matter.
The moon and the Chakora bird enjoy watching each other.
सर्वस्वनाशे सम्प्राप्ते प्राणानामपि संशये ।
अपि शत्रुं प्रणम्योच्चै रक्षेत् प्राणान् धनानि च ॥ 863
Sarvasvanashe samprapte
prananamapi samshaye l
Api shatrum pranamyochchai
rakshet pranan dhanani cha ll
When the possibility of
losing everything and one’s life is in danger, one should
save one’s life and money
even if one has to offer salutations to the enemy.
न प्रहृष्यति सम्माने नापमाने च कुप्यति ।
न क्रुद्धः परुषं ब्रूयादेतद्धि साधुलक्षणम् ॥ 864
Na
prahrushyati sammane napamane cha kupyati l
Na
kruddhah parusham bruyadeddhiddha sadhulakshanam ll
Not over
happy when praised, not angry when insulted,
not furious
with bad words, these are the signs of a gentleman.
मनो हि द्विविधं प्रोक्तं शुध्दं चाशुध्दमेव च ।
अशुध्दं कामसंकल्पं शुध्दं कामविवर्जितम् ॥ 865
Mano hi dvividham proktam
shuddham chashuddhameva cha l
Ashuddham kamasankalpam
shuddham kamavivarjitam ll
Mind is said to be of two
types – pure and impure.
Impure mind is with binding
desires and pure mind is without desires.
