 वनानि दहतो वह्नेः सखा भवति मारुतः ।

स एव दीपनाशाय कृशे कस्यास्ति सौहृदम् ॥ 941

 

Vanani dahato vahneh sakha bhavati marutah

Sa eva dipanashaya krusho kasyasti sauhrudam

 

The wind becomes a helper of the fire that burns in the forest.

The same wind blows out a lamp. Where are the friends of the weak?

 

पारभन्तेऽरुपमेवाज्ञाः कामं व्यग्रा भवन्ति च ।

महारम्भाः कृतधियस्तिष्ठन्ति च निराकुलाः ॥ 942

 

Parabhante arupamevajnah kamam vyagra bhavanti cha

Maharambhah krutadhiyastishtthanti cha nirakulah

 

Ignorant people start small tasks and are completely absorbed in them.

Determined people who undertake large tasks remain unperturbed.

 

दुर्जनेन समं सख्यं द्वेषं वापि न कारयेत् ।

उष्णो दहति चाङ्गारः शीतः कृष्णायते करम् ॥ 943

 

Durjanena samam sakhyam dvesham vapi na karayet

Ushno dahati changarah shitah krushnayate karam

 

Do not make friendship or enmity with the wicked.

Coal when hot burns the hand and when cold blackens it.

 

लक्षणं मनसः ज्ञानस्य अभावः भाव एव वा ।

सति हि आत्म इन्द्रियार्थानां सन्निकर्षेण एव वर्तते ॥ 944

 

Lakshnam manasah jnanasya abhavah bhava eva va

Sati hi atma indriyarthanam sannikarshena eva vartate

 

The quality of the mind is such that it produces knowledge or lack of it

in contact with the soul and sensory organs, behaving contrarily.

 

स्वल्पं स्वल्पमपि प्राज्ञैः कर्तव्यं सुकृतार्जनम् ।

पतद्भिर्बिन्दुभिर्जाता महानद्यः समुद्रगाः ॥ 945

 

Svalpam svalpamapi prajnaih kartavyam sukrutarjanam

Patadbhirbindubhirjata mahandyah samudragah

 

Wisemen earn merit by actions done bit by bit. From falling

drops of water emerge great rivers that reach the oceans.
