वॄत्तं यत्नेन संरक्षेद् वित्तमायाति याति च ।
अक्षीणो वित्तत: क्षीणो वॄत्ततस्तु हतो हत: ॥ 1001
Vruttam yatnena samrakshed vittamayati yati cha ।
Akshino vittatah kshino vruttatastu hato hatah ॥
One shall protect one’s character with effort. Money can be earned
and lost. A wealthy person without a good character is as good as dead.
पापं
कर्तुमृणं कर्तुं मन्यन्ते मानवाः सुखम् ।
परिणामोऽतिगहनो
महतामपि नाश्कृतः ॥ 1002
Papam kartumrunam kartum manyante manavah sukham ।
Parinamo atigahano mahatamapi nashkrutah ॥
People wish to be happy committing sinful acts and being
indebted.
The results are deep and can destroy even the great.
ये च मूढतमा: लोके ये च बुद्धे: परं
गता: ।
ते एव सुखम् एधन्ते मध्यम: क्लिश्यते जन: ॥ 1003
Ye cha muddhatamah loke ye cha buddheh param gatah ।
Te eva sukham edhante madhyamah klishyate janah ॥
In this world, there are those who are idiotic and those
who are very bright who
uttain happiness. Those in between are always unhappy and
struggling.
बुधाग्रे न गुणान् ब्रूयात् साधु वेत्ति यत: स्वयम् ।
मूर्खाग्रेपि च न ब्रूयाद्धुधप्रोक्तं न वेत्ति स: ॥ 1004
Budhagre na gunan bruyat sadhu vetti yatah
svayam ।
Murkhagrepi cha na bruyaddhuproktam na vetti
sah ॥
No need to talk about your qualities to an intelligent person as he can assess on his own. No need to talk about your qualities to an idiot as he will not be able to grasp what you say.
सर्वं
परवशं दुःखं सर्वमात्मवशं सुखम् ।
एतद्
विद्यात् समासेन लक्षणं सुखदुःखयोः ॥ 1005
Sarvam paravasham dukham sarvamatmavasham sukham ।
Etad vidyat samasena lakshanam sukhadukhayoh ॥
What all belongs to others is
unhappiness, what all belongs to you is happiness.
This is the essence of the nature of
happiness and unhappiness.
