गतेर्भंग: स्वरो हीनो गात्रे स्वेदो महद्भयम् ।

मरणे यानि चिह्नानि तानि चिह्नानि याचके ॥ 996 

 

Gaterbhangah svaro hino gatre svedo mahadbhayam ।

Marane yani chihnani tani chihnani yachake ॥

 

Unsteady walk, low voice, sweating and great fear are all signs

found in one about to die and also in one asking for favours.

 

अंशुकमिव शीतभयात् संस्त्यनत्वच्छलेन हिमधवलम् ।

अम्भोभिरपि गृहीतं पश्यत शिशिरस्य महात्म्यम् ॥ 997

 

Amshukamiva shitabhayam samstyanatvachchalena himadhavalam ।

Ambhobhirapi gruhitam pashyata shishirasya mahatmyam ॥

 

Look at the greatness of the cool season as even the waters, as if afraid of the cold,

have put on a white silken garment in the guise of a thick fall of snow. 

 

शुश्रूषा श्रवणं चैव ग्रहणं धारणं तथा ।
उहापोहो अर्थविज्ञानं तत्वज्ञानं च धीगुणा: ॥ 998

 

Shushrusha shravanam chaiva grahanam dharanam tatha ।

Uhapoho arthavijananam tatvajnanam cha dhigunah ॥

 

Caring for others, listening, understanding, retaining, Imagination,

knowledge of finance, philosophy are attributes of an intelligent person.

 

द्वयक्षरस् तु भवेत् मॄत्युर् त्रयक्षरमं ब्रह्म शाश्वतम् ।

मम इति च भवेत् मॄत्युर नमम इति च शाश्वतम् ॥ 999

 

Dvayaksharas tu bhavet mrutyur trayaksharam brahma shashvatam ।

Mama iti cha bhavet mrutyur namama iti cha shashvatam ॥

 

Mrutyu is a 2-letter word and Brahma(imperishable) is of 3 letters

Mama(Mine) of 2-letters is death while Namama(Not mine) of 3-letters  is imperishable.

 

 

रविरपि न दहति तादॄग् यादॄक् संदहति वालुकानिकर: ।

अन्यस्माल्लब्धपदो नीच: प्रायेण दु:सहो भवति ॥ 1000

 

Ravirapi na dahati tadrug yadruk samdahati valukanikarah ।

Anyasmallabdhapado nichah prayena dussaho bhavati ॥

 

Direct Sun does not burn us as much as a hot sand dune does.

A mediocre person who becomes great due to another person becomes intolerable.
