पण्डितोऽपि
सुशीलोऽपि धनार्थी तृणतामियात् ।
यथा बिसार्थी
हंसोऽपि मधुपैरपि वञ्च्यते ॥ ६३१
Pandito api sushilo api dhanarthi trunatamiyat ।
Yatha bisarthi hamso api madhupairapi vanchyate ॥
A greedy miserly person treats learned and noble persons as insignificant
grass. Just like the swan which eats stems of lotus plants depriving honeybees of
nectar.
शाठ्येन मित्रं
कलुषेण धर्मं परावमानेन समृद्धिमानम् ।
सुखेन विद्यां
परुषेण नारीं वाच्छन्ति ये नूनमपण्डितास्ते ॥ ६३२
Shatyena mitram kalushena dharmam paravamanena samruddhimanam ।
Sukhena vidyam parushena narim vachchanti ye nunamapanditaste ॥
Those who seek friendship through dishonesty, dharma through wickedness,
prosperity through insulting others, knowledge through comfort, women
throughhars hness are indeed fools.
अप्रमत्तश्च यो
राजा सर्वज्ञो विजितेन्द्रियः ।
कृतज्ञो
धर्मशीलश्च स राजा तिष्ठते चिरम् ॥ ६३३
Apramattashcha yo raja sarvajno vijitendriyah ।
Krutajno dharmashilashcha sa raja tishtate chiram ॥
A king who is considerate, omniscient, has sensory control,
is grateful, upholds dharma, such a king
will be a long ruling one.
गुणेषु
क्रियतां यत्न: किमाटोपै: प्रयोजनम् ।
विक्रीयन्ते न
घण्टाभि: गाव: क्षीरविवर्जिता: ॥ ६३४
Guneshu kriyatam
yatnah kimatopaih prayojanam ।
Vikriyante na
ghantabhih gavah kshiravivarjitah ॥
Attempt to do anything
with skill, what use is showing off?
A cow which cannot
yield milk cannot be sold by ringing its bell.
तथैव ज्ञानकर्मभ्यां जायते परमं पदम् ॥ ६३५
Ubhabhyameva
pakshabhyam shatha khe pakshinam gatih ।
Tathaiva
jnanakarmabhyam jayate paramam padam ॥
Just as birds can fly
high with the help of two wings, one can attain
supreme reality with
the help of knowledge and performance of duties.
