Pandito api sushilo api dhanarthi trunatamiyat
Yatha bisarthi hamso api madhupairapi vanchyate

A greedy miserly person treats learned and noble persons as insignificant grass. Just like the swan which eats stems of lotus plants depriving honeybees of nectar.

Shatyena mitram kalushena dharmam paravamanena samruddhimanam
Sukhena vidyam parushena narim vachchanti ye nunamapanditaste

Those who seek friendship through dishonesty, dharma through wickedness,
prosperity through insulting others, knowledge through comfort, women throughhars hness are indeed fools.

Apramattashcha yo raja sarvajno vijitendriyah
Krutajno dharmashilashcha sa raja tishtate chiram

A king who is considerate, omniscient, has sensory control,
is grateful, upholds dharma, such a king will be a long ruling one.

Guneshu kriyatam yatnah kimatopaih prayojanam
Vikriyante na ghantabhih gavah kshiravivarjitah

Attempt to do anything with skill, what use is showing off?
A cow which cannot yield milk cannot be sold by ringing its bell.

Ubhabhyameva pakshabhyam shatha khe pakshinam gatih
Tathaiva jnanakarmabhyam jayate paramam padam

Just as birds can fly high with the help of two wings, one can attain
supreme reality with the help of knowledge and performance of duties.
