अर्थेभ्योऽपि हि वृद्धेभ्यः संवृत्तेभ्यस्तस्ततः ।
प्रवर्तन्ते क्रियाः सर्वाः पर्वतेभ्य इवापगाः ॥ 1221
Arthebhyo api hi vruddhebhyah
samvruttebhyastastatah ।
Pravartante kriyah sarvah parvatebhya ivapagah ॥
When wealth is accumulated
and when it keeps increasing abundantly,
all works get done
effortlessly like rivers flowing down from mountains.
न सा विद्या न तद्दानं न तच्छिल्पं न सा
कला ।
न तत्स्थैर्यं हि धनिनां याचकैर्यन्न
गीयते ॥ 1222
Na sa vidya na taddanam na tachchilpam na sa
kala ।
Na tatsthairyam hi dhaninam yachakairyatra ॥
There is no education, no
charity, no skill, no artistry, no resoluteness,
which has not been made the
attribute of rich patrons being praised by their suppliants.
द्विगुणं त्रिगुणं वित्तं भाण्डक्रयविचक्षणाः ।
प्राप्नुवन्त्युद्यमाल्लोका दूरदेशान्तरं गताः ॥ 1223
Dvigunam trigunam vittam bhandakraya
vicakshanah ।
Prapnuvantyudyamalloka duradeshantaram gatah ॥
People who go to foreign
countries seem to acquire business
capabilities to sell goods
at twice or thrice the price.
गोष्ठिककर्मनियुक्तः श्रेष्ठी चिन्तयति चेतसा हृष्टः ।
वसुधा वसुसंपूर्णा मयाद्य लब्धा किमन्येन ॥ 1224
Goshtikakarmaniyuktah shreshti chintayati
chetasa hrushtah ।
Vasudha vasusampurna mayadya labdha kim anyena ॥
A man entrusted with a company's business delighted
at heart thinks,
‘I have today obtained the whole earth full of
wealth, why want anything else?
स्तोकेनोन्नतिमायाति
स्तोकेनायात्यधोगतिम् ।
अहो सुसदृशी वृत्तिस्तुलाकोटेः
खलस्य च ॥ 1225
Stokenonnatimayati
stokenayatyadhogatim ।
Aho susadrushi
vruttistulakoteh khalasya cha ॥
Wicked people are like the rod of a weighing
machine which moves with slight
weight difference. They become happy or sad by the
mere sign of prosperity or poverty.
