निशानां च दिनानां च यथा ज्योतिः विभूषणम् ।

सतीनां च यतीनां च तथा शीलमखण्डितम् ॥ 1206 

Nishanam cha dinanam cha yatha jyotih vibhushanam ।

Satinam cha yatinam cha shilamakhanditam ॥ 

Just as brightness is the adornment of night and day,

unshakeable modesty is the adornment of wives and saints.

 

क्षन्तव्यो मन्दबुद्धीनाम् अपराधो मनीषिणा ।

न हि सर्वत्र पाण्डित्यं सुलभं पुरुषे क्वचित् ॥ 1207

 

Kshantavyo mandabuddhinam aparadho manishina ।

Na hi sarvatra pandityam sulabham purusha kvachit ॥

 

The follies of the dull-witted should be forgiven.

Erudition does not come easily to people everywhere.

 

धर्मो यशो नयो दाक्ष्यं मनोहारि सुभाषितम् ।
इत्यादि गुणरत्नानां संग्रही नावसीदती ॥ 1208

 

Dharmo yasho nayo dakshyam manohari subhashitam ।

Ityadi gunaratnanam samgrahi navasidati ॥

 

One who collects jewels such as dharma, fame, courtesy,

compassion and pleasing subhashitas will not face decline.

 

लभ्यते खलु पापीयान् नरो नु प्रियवागिह ।
अप्रियस्य हि पथ्यस्य वक्ता श्रोता च दुर्लभ ॥ 1209

Labhyate khalu papiyan naro nu priyavagiha ।

Apriyasya hi pathyasya vakta shrota cha durlabha ॥

It is easy to find wicked people in this world who please one with sweet words but difficult to come across people who speak & hear the bitter truth.

  

शुभं वा यदि वा पापं द्वेष्यं वा यदि वा प्रियम् ।
अपृष्टस्तस्य तद्ब्रूयाद्यस्य नेच्छेत् पराभवम् ॥ 1210 

Shubhaṁ va yadi va papam dveshyaṁ va yadi va priyam ।
Aprushtastasya tadbruyadyasya nechchet parabhavam ॥

Be it good or bad, pleasant or hateful. well -wishers should be

truthful to the the person whose downfall is not wished.
