न हि ज्ञानसमं लोके पवित्रं चान्यसाधनं ।

विज्ञानं सर्वलोकानामुत्कर्षाय स्मृतं खलु ॥ १4०१

 

Na hi jnanasamam loke pavitram chanyasadhanam ।

Vijnanam sarvalokanamutkarshaya smrutam khalu ॥

 

There is nothing more sacred than knowledge in this world.

Science is considered fundamental to progress of this world.

 

वर्धनं वा सम्मानं खलानां प्रीतये कुतः ।
फलन्त्य् अमृतसेकेऽपि न पथ्यानि विषद्रुमाः ॥ १4०२

 

Vardhanam va sammanam khalanam pritaye kutah ।
Phalantyamrutaseke api na pathyani vishadrumah ॥

 

How can promotion or honouring please the wicked?

Poisonous trees watered with nectar do not yield wholesome fruits.

 

आकिंचन्यं सुसंतोषो निराशीष्ट्वमचापलम् ।

एतदाहुः परं श्रेय आत्मज्ञस्य जितात्मनः ॥ १4०३

 

Akimchanyam susantosho nirashishtvamacapalam ।
Etadāhuh param shreya atmajnasya jitatmanah ॥

Complete disregard for all wordly things, contentment, freedom from desires and

patience, constitute the highest good of one who has achieved self realisation.

 

अग्निकार्ये न मे दुःखं छेदे न निकषे न वा ।
यत्तदेव महद्दुःखं गुञ्जया सह तोलनम् ॥ १4०4

Agnikarye na me dukham chede na nikashe na va ।
Yattadeva mahaddukham gunjaya saha tolanam ॥

Gold says I am not worried if I am put in the fire, cut or rubbed.

I feel bad when I am compared to beads used in making toys.

 

 

विषदग्धस्य भक्तस्य दन्तस्य चलितस्य च ।
अमात्यस्य च दुष्टस्य मूलाद् उद्धरणं सुखम् ॥ १4०5

 

Vishadagdhasya bhaktasya dantasya chalitasya cha ।
Amatyasya cha dushtasya mulad uddharanam sukham ॥

 

Complete eradication of poisoned food, a loose tooth and a wicked minister

leads to happiness.
