नह्यतो धर्मचरणं
किञ्चिदस्ति महत्तरम् ।
यथा पितरि
शुश्रूषा तस्य वा वचनक्रिया ॥ ५७६
Nahyato dharmacharanam kinchidasti
mahattaram ।
Yatha pitari shushrusha tasya va vachanakriya
॥
There is no greater act of virtue than
taking care of
one’s father and carrying out his
instructions.
पापस्य हि फलं
दुःखं तद् भोक्तव्यमिहात्मना ।
तस्मादात्मावघार्थं
मूढः पापं करिष्यति ॥ ५७७
Papasya hi phalam dukham tad
bhoktvyamihatmana ।
Tasmadatmavaghartham muddhah papam
karishyati ॥
The result of sin is sorrow which one’s
soul has to suffer.
A fool would commit a sin to put his own
self in danger.
द्रव्यज्वरातुराणां
तु शान्तये नौषधादयपि ।
नहि
वृष्टिशतेनापि पाषाणादङ्कुरोदयः ॥ ५७८
Dravyajvaraturanam tu shantaye
naushadhadayapi ।
Nahi vrushtishatenapi pashanadankurodayah ॥
Those with fever of acquiring more and more
wealth cannot be cured with medicines. Even with hundred rains a seed cannot
sprout over stones.
प्रथमे नार्जिता
विद्या द्वितीये नार्जितं धनम् ।
तृतीये नार्जितं
पुण्यं चतुर्थे किं करिष्यसि ॥ ५७९
Prathame narjita vidya dvitiye narjita
dhanam ।
Trutiye narjitam punyam chaturte kim
karishyasi ॥
When in the first part of life you did not acquire
education, in the second, money, in the third, merit(punyam), what can you
acquire in the fourth?
यस्य नास्ति स्वयं
प्रज्ञा शास्त्रं तस्य करोति किम् ।
लोचनाभ्यां विहीनश्च
दर्पणः किं करिश्यति ॥ ५८०
Yasya nasti svayam prajna shastram tasya
karoti kim ।
Lochanabhyam vihinasya darpanah kim
karishyati ॥
For a person without awareness what can
scriptures teach?
For a person without eyesight what use is a
mirror?
