Daivam hi prajnam mushnati chakshusteja ivapatat
Dhatushcha vashamnveti pashairiva narah sitah

Fate takes away discrimination just as intense light can take away eyesight.
As if bound by the noose, man is controlled by fate.

Durjanadushatamanasah sujaneshvapi nasti vishvasah
Balah payasadagdho dadhyapi phutkrutya bhakshayati

One who is deceived by evil people loses faith even in good people.
A child burnt while drinking hot kheer, blows air on curds before eating.

Kupito api gunayaiva gunavan bhavati dhruvam
Svabhavamadhuram kshiram mathitam tu rasottaram

A virtuous person even if angry remains virtuous. Milk
which by nature sweet, remains sweet even when churned.

Tavanmahatvam pandityam kulinatvam vivekita
Yavajjvalati nangeshu hanta pancheshupavakah

A person’s greatness, learning, noble descent and awareness exist
only up to the time when the fire of passion does not burn his limbs

Krutam parenaypukarayogam smaranti nityam krutino manushyah
Tesham na tulya bhuvane shashanko na va kubero na ravirna shakrah

Even the moon, Kubera, the sun and Indra are no match for people who
remember and are grateful to those who helped in times of difficulties
