सिद्धमन्नं
फलं पक्वं नारीं प्रथमयौवनम् ।
सुभाषितं च
ताम्बूलं सद्यो गृह्णाति बुद्धिमान् ॥ २८६
Siddhamannam
phalam pakvam narim prathamayauvanam ।
Subhashitam
cha tambulam sadyo gruhnati buddhiman ॥
Cooked
food, ripe fruit, youthful women, good words and betel leaves & nuts
are
offerings quickly accepted by an intelligent man.
अर्थेन हि
वियुक्तस्य पुरुषस्याल्पतेजसः ।
व्युच्छिद्यन्ते
क्रियास्सर्वा ग्रीष्मे कुसरितो यथा ॥ २८७
Arthena hi viyuktasya purushasyalpatejasah ।
Vyucchidyante kriyassarvam grishme kusarito
yatha ॥
A dullard without any financial resources
will see all his efforts
come to nought like small rivulets drying
up in summer.
ब्रह्मघ्ने
च सुरापे च गोघ्ने भग्नव्रते तथा ।
निष्कृतिर्विहिता
सद्भिः कृतघ्ने नास्ति निष्कृतिः ॥ २८८
Brahmaghne cha surape cha godhne
bhagnavrate tatha ।
Nishkrutirvihita sadbhih krutaghne nasti
nishkrutih ॥
One who kills a Brahmin, is a drunkard, cow
killer, breaks his vows can
still find expiation for his sins, but for
one who is an ingrate there is no salvation.
कायेन
कुरुते पापं मनसा सम्प्रधार्यं च ।
अनृतं
जिह्वया चाह त्रिविधं कर्म पातकम् ॥ २८९
Kayena kurute papam manasa sampradharyam cha
।
Anrutam jihvaya chaha trividham karma
patakam ॥
A sin is committed by one after it is
conceived in the mind and after
a falsehood is spoken by the tongue. This
is triple degradation.
शिरसि
विधृतोऽपि नित्यं यत्नादपि सेवितो बहुस्नेहैः ।
तरुणीकच इव
नीचः कौटिल्यं नैव विजहाति ॥ २९०
Shirasi vidhruto api nityam yatnadapi
sevito bahusnehaih ।
Tarunikacha iva nichah kautilyam naiva
vijahati ॥
A woman grooms her hair with care applying oil
etc. but still strands of hair
Get entangled. just like wicked persons who
do not give up their crookedness
however well they are treated.
