Chalam vittam chalam chittam chale jIvitayauvane |
Chalachalamidam sarvam kIrtiyasya sa jIvati ||

Wealth is transient so is the mind. Youth and life are temporary
Everything in this world is short lived but the fame one has acquired lives on.

Sampatsu mahatma chittam bhavatyutpalakomalam |

Apatsu cha mahashailashilasanghatakarkasam ||

In times of prosperity minds of great people are as soft as water lilies.
Whereas in adversity they become as hard as mountain rocks.

Murkhasya pancha chinani garvo durvachanam tatha |
Krodhashcha drudhavadashcha paravakyeshvanadarah ||

There are five signs of fools - Pride, abusive language, anger, stubborn arguments and disrespect for other people's opinion.

Kshanashcha kanashchaiva vidyamartham cha sadhayet |

Kshane nashte kuto vidya kane nashte kuto dhanam ||

One acquires knowledge and wealth second by second and grain by grain.
If a second is wasted, where will knowledge come from, if a grain is wasted where will wealth come from?

deheeti vachananm shrutvaa dehasthaa panchdevataah |
tatkShaNaadeva leeyante dheehreeshreekraantikeertayah ||

As soon as the words “I beg you. Please give me” are uttered, the five inherent divine qualities in a man – intelligence, modesty, riches, countenance and reputation die instantly.
