को न याति वशं लोके मुखं पिण्डेन पूरितः ।
मृदङ्गो मुखलेपेन करोति मधुरं ध्वनिम् ॥ ७६
Ko na yati vasham loke mukham pindena puritah ।
Mrudango mukhalepena karoti madhuram dhvanim ॥
Who
on earth cannot be controlled whose is filled with food?
The
Mrudanga gives out sweet sounds after its sides are smeared with paste.
क्षिप्रं विजानाति चिरं शृणोति विज्ञाय चार्थं भजते न
कामात् ।
नासंपृष्टो व्यपयुंक्ते परार्थे तत् प्रज्ञानं प्रथमं पण्डितस्य ॥ ७७
Kshipram vijanati chiram shrunoti vijnaya chartham
bhajate na kamat |
Nasamprushto vyapayunkte pararthe tat prajnan prathamam
panditasya.
Quickly understands what is said, listens for a long
time, gives due respect without ulterior motive, does not talk to grab
another’s wealth: All these are the foremost features of a learned person.
अधमा: धनमिच्छन्ति धनं मानं च मध्यमा:।
उत्तमा: मानमिच्छन्ति मानो हि महताम् धनम् ।। ७८
Adhamah dhanamichchanti dhanam manam cha madhyamah ।
Uttamah manamichchanti mano hi mahatam dhanam ।।
Mediocre people desire wealth, those in the middle wealth and respect,
Great ones desire respect as they consider respect as greatest wealth.
एकवर्णं यथा
दुग्धं भिन्नवर्णासु धेनुषु ।
तथैव
धर्मवैचित्र्यं तत्वमेकं परं स्मॄतम् ॥ ७९
ekavarnam yatha dugdham bhinnavarnasu dhenushu ।
tathaiva dharmavaichitryam tatvamekam param smritam ॥

Just as
cows of difficult colours produce only white milk,
Religions
may be different but the principle they teach is the same.
उत्सवे व्यसने चैव दुर्भिक्षे
राष्ट्रविप्लवे ।
राजद्वारे श्मशाने च यस्तिष्ठति स बान्धवः ॥ ८०

Utsave
vyasane chaiva durbhikshe rashtraviplave ।
Rajadvare
smashane cha yastishtati sa bandhavah ॥
At festivals or in a calamity, in
famine or during enemy attack
At the king’s doorstep or at the
cemetery, one who stands by me is a brother.
